Dog Walking FAQs

Find answers to your questions prior to scheduling a dog walk.

Can I purchase a single dog walk?

Of course. A single dog walk is $18 for one dog. Additional dogs can be added to the same walk for only $10 per dog.

Do you offer volume discounts or package pricing?

Yes.  We offer a 5-walk package at a discounted rate of $15 per walk. Please see pricing tables for details.

You must schedule 5 individual walks at the time of purchase to receive the package discount. The discount will be applied in the cart when 5 walks have been added.

How old should my dog be to qualify for the Puppy training?

Instead of age, it is best to use your dog’s behavior as a guide to determine the necessary service. Generally, if your dog is not yet house trained they will do best with our Puppy training. If you are unsure of your dog’s requirement we offer a free evaluation. Send us an email to request an evaluation prior to scheduling.

What is your cancellation policy?

All cancellations must be made 24 hours prior to your your dog’s scheduled walk. You can make a cancellation by phone, email, or online at your My U&Pet Account page.

Can I reschedule my dog’s appointment?

Yes, you can reschedule an appointment by calling or sending us an email. We ask that you reschedule recurring appointments no later than 8pm on the Saturday prior to the upcoming week.

What type of training does your staff receive?

All dog walking staff members complete a minimum 2-week intensive dog training/behavior course provided by a certified dog trainer and dog behavioral specialist.

What are you staff members trained in?

Our dog walkers are trained in:

      • Canine First Aid
      • Canine CPR
      • Primary Grooming, such as the ability to clip nails, clean ears, and brush dog’s teeth.
      • Basic obedience training, such as how to teach dogs to:
        • walk properly on a leash.
        • stop and sit prior to crossing the street.
        • how to properly greet a friendly stranger.
        • not to bark at other dogs, animals, or people.
        • how to greet people or other dogs within the house.
      • How to interact, play with, and handle puppies.
        • All walkers must understand puppy socialization, sound of disapproval, understanding puppy ages and when they can be around other dogs, how to play with a puppy (brain stimulation), handling the puppy, and teaching the puppy to calm/settle down.
Do your staff members have prior experience working with dogs?

Yes. All of our dog walkers are required to have a minimum of 3 years experience working with dogs, and each of them has gone through a minimum 2-week intensive dog training/behavior course provided by a certified dog trainer and dog behavioral specialist. All our staff members are dog owners themselves.

My dog has a favorite place to walk. Will you be able to walk him there?

Yes. We are more than happy to take your dog on a route he knows and loves.

Can you take my dog to the off-leash dog park?
My dog has a unique personality. Can you handle dogs with special needs?

Yes! We specialize is dogs with special behavioral needs. All of our dog walkers have been trained in handling special cases. We ask that you inform us of your dog’s needs during the free evaluation prior to the first walk. We have more experienced dog walkers who can provide personalized attention for dogs with unique personalities.

My dog has a medical or physical issue that needs special care. Can you accommodate his needs?

Absolutely. All of our dog walkers have been trained in handling special cases. We ask that you inform us of your dog’s needs during the free evaluation prior to the first walk.

What if my dog doesn’t like the dog walker?

First, all of our staff members are professional “dog people” and have a knack for bonding with dogs of all personalities. However, in the rare event that your dog does not get along well with the selected dog walker, we are happy to switch to another staff member who may be a better fit.

What happens in the event of bad weather?

If the federal government or public schools in your district are closed due to inclement weather, you can call us by 8:00 AM the day of the visit to cancel the walk without penalty.

We will make all reasonable attempts to remain in service during bad weather. However, U&Pet reserves the right to cancel visits if walkers are unable to safely reach your home. The service schedule may be changed, interrupted, altered or cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

What is included in a dog walk?

In addition to the standard dog walking features you would expect from U&Pet, our rigorous staff training requirements allow us to provide you and your dog with advanced dog walking features, such as behavioral guidancesocialization,  puppy development, and primary grooming tasks.

What areas do you service?

U&Pet Dog Walking services many neighborhoods in the Washington DC area, and we’re expanding all the time. If you don’t live inside a designated service area we can still help – just send us an email.
